Artist Statement:
In my sculpture I use multiple linear repetitions. The imagery for these forms is from my fiber background (textiles and tapestry weaving). During construction I literally feel as if I am weaving with wood. The interlocking and interaction of forms becomes repetitive to the point of having a meditative rhythm. Working abstractly I try to use these linear forms and influences to express my deep inner feelings; seeking to express those anthropomorphic emotions shared with all human beings.
The sculptures may evoke ideas of skeletons, shells and landscapes. Most of the work has a central crevice or an area that could be considered the inside. This is a secure place that represents different emotions such as a primordial dark unknown, or a vulnerable place. The intersections and the erosion of intersections create the movement within each work. Hopefully, the viewer will let themselves explore the linear rhythms and spaces of the work and be drawn inside.
My most recent work is about eternity and time. The forms are inspired by erosion of cal trite in cave formations. The undulating rhythms in the forms of the erosion speak to me of our mortality and the huge expanses of time that lead to one particular moment of beauty.
